Doylestown Township Approves Ban on Plastic Shopping Bags

DOYLESTOWN, PA—Doylestown Township became the latest municipality in Pennsylvania to enact a ban on single-use plastic bags on Tuesday night despite some opposition about a rule that will force businesses to charge customers for paper bags.

Under the new law, which takes effect in six months, township stores will no longer be permitted to give customers plastic bags at checkout. Plastic bags, however, will still be allowed for items like produce, meats and baked goods.
